I live far away from my family.
Unless you know me quite well, you've probably never seen the tattoo on my back. It's on the left side. It says, "It's Far From Your Heart". The words are written in a little banner that entwines a vine. Along the vine are four little playing cards, and on them are little pictures; a pistol, a heart, a halo, and a star.
The vine is my mother that my siblings and I grew from. She used to call me her star. My sister Bridget was her pistol, Sean was her angel (the halo) and Jimi was her heart.
The banner says "It's Far From Your Heart" because that's what my mom's mom used to say to us when we fell down and scraped our knee, or what have you.
The phrase means so many things to me now. My family is physically far from my heart. My family has been through so much individually and collectively, and we have all survived (albeit, kicking and screaming sometimes).
They are forever mine, and I am forever theirs; so no matter who I become, my allegiance, my undying love, the core of my being, belongs to my family. I miss them everyday.
